INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE APPLICATION

 ·        Attach to the completed copy of this application a certified copy of your high school transcript or GED certificate.

·        Attach a 200-250 word essay as to why you qualify for this scholarship.  Include your present agriculture status, plans regarding agriculture after college, future goals and ambitions.

·        Sign the application.  Unsigned applications will not be accepted.

·        Check the application carefully to determine if you have fully answered all questions.

·        Only complete those sections that apply to your situation.  Please do not fill in any portion of the application that does not apply to you.

·        At least 2 letters of reference are required.  One should be from a teacher, county agent, 4-H or FFA leader and One from employer, neighbor, school principal, counselor or pastor. (neither one should be from your immediate family)  These references are required and are confidential.  They are to be mailed directly by the reference source to the Four States Office.

·        All applications must be typewritten or will not be accepted.

·        The Four States Fair Office must receive applications by 5:00pm the 15th of April.  There will be NO applications accepted after this date.

·        Include a 5x7 black & white photo for media announcement. 

·        An applicant may apply for both the Four States Fair Freshman Scholarship and the Four States Fair Gene Sutton Memorial Scholarship, but may be awarded only one of the scholarships.  If applying for both scholarships, fill out separate forms for each scholarship.

 FOUR STATES FAIR FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS  

•     Applicants must be a member of a 4-H or FFA chapter and have exhibited livestock at the Four States Fair Livestock Show for two years prior to application.

•     Applicants must be a graduating senior or have successfully completed the GED exam.

•     Applicant should be planning a career in an agriculture related field.

•     Applicant must be enrolled in an approved college or university the fall following high school graduation to receive scholarship funds.

•     Proof of enrollment or information regarding enrollment must be presented to the Four States Fair Office by October 1 of the year in which they are named winners to receive scholarship funds.

•     Applicant must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and maintain that GPA to receive the funds for the second semester.  (if grade scale is not a 4.0 scale, please explain)

•     Applicant must be classified as a full-time student by the college or university attending.

•     The applicant should exhibit leadership abilities and good, moral character as well as have an economic need.

•     Applications must be received by the Four States Fair Office by 5:00pm the 15th of April.  There will be NO applications accepted after this date.

•     The scholarship will be $500, payable $250 per semester to the school of the recipients choice upon official verification of college enrollment.

•     Selected colleges and universities have agreed to match the Four States Fair Freshman Scholarship.  If the recipient chooses to attend one of the participating schools the scholarship would then be $1000, payable $500 per semester to the school of choice.  An updated list of participating schools will be included with the scholarship application.

FOUR STATES FAIR GENE SUTTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS  

•     Applicants must be a member of a 4-H or FFA chapter and have exhibited at the Four States Fair in the Agriculture Department (educational booths, ag. products, farm ship project) and/or Junior Home Arts Department (canning, clothing, woodcrafts, horticulture, etc.) for two years prior to application.

•     Applicants must be a graduating senior or have successfully completed the GED exam.

•     Applicant should be planning a career in an agriculture related field.

•     Applicant must be enrolled in an approved college or university the fall following high school graduation to receive scholarship funds.

•     Proof of enrollment or information regarding enrollment must be presented to the Four States Fair Office by October 1 of the year in which they are named winners to receive scholarship funds.
