CALF SCRAMBLE RULES

 

SCRAMBLE RULES

                1.       The Four States Fair will not be responsible for any accidents connected with this event.

2.             Qualifications for the contests are:

   a.       AGE:  12 - 16 years of age.  Must have reached 12th birthday, but not 17th birthday on or before opening day of fair  

                                and not enrolled beyond their Junior year in High School.

   b.         MUST be able to feed and care for animal.

   c.         MUST be reliable and trustworthy.

   d.         MUST agree to exhibit animal won at the 2009 Four States Fair and Rodeo in the Junior Livestock Show in 2010.

3.                       COMPLETE minor releases must be submitted to the Four States Fair office by AUGUST 28, 2009.  Contestants will be

                notified of their acceptance as well as the date and time they are to participate.

4.                       Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the contestants will scramble for a breeding beef heifer (heifer may  

                registered, dairy  or commercial).

5.        Your FFA chapter/4-H club may select up to 5 contestants for the calf scramble – NO ALTERNATES OR SUBSTITUTIONS

            WILL BE ACCEPTED.  A contestant may scramble only one night.

                6.       A contestant may scramble as 4H or FFA – not both.

                7.        Entries must be received through AST or CEA. 

                8.        Entries received on a first come first serve basis.

                9.        Prior winners of the FSF Calf Scramble are not eligible to compete.

                10.      It is recommended that photos be mailed to your sponsor and the fair office at least once every other month.

 

ARENA RULES

                1.       Contestants and calves will be placed in the arena as directed by arena director.

2.       Contestants will take into the arena a rope halter.  Halter cannot be used as a lariat.  Halter must be placed on the head of animal   

          in the  usual way.

3.       The Four States Fair will furnish the rope halters.

                4.       Each contestant will attempt to catch and halter one of the calves released.   

              5.       If two or more contestants catch the same calf, the calf will be turned loose.

              6.       If a contestant has a hold of a calf, no other contestant will be allowed to touch the calf until it breaks away.

7.                 The contestant who secures and properly halters a calf and returns to the circle will be declared the winner when so indicated by 

                     the referee.

8.       Undue roughness will not be tolerated.  Poor sportsmanship automatically disqualifies any contestant.

                9.       The calf scramble will be refereed by a select group of appointed referees.

 

PURCHASE CERTIFICATES

1.       Following the Four States Fair Rodeo winners will be mailed a certificate for a breeding beef heifer, showing they are a winner.

2.        The breeding beef heifer of winner’s choice must be purchased no later than February 23, 2010.  Purchase certificates not

            postmarked by March 1, 2010 will be void unless prior arrangements have been made with the Livestock Director.

3.         Heifers won through the calf scramble will be shown in a scramble calf division as well as their respective breed division in the

           Junior Livestock show.  Indicate on entry form and summary sheet that animal is a Four States Fair Scramble winner entry.

                4.       The animal must return for exhibit in the 2010 Four States Fair Junior Beef Cattle Show, unless circumstances approved by the

           Four States Fair Livestock Director, make this impractical. In the event of a disabling or terminal condition, a letter from your

           veterinarian will be required.  Contact the Livestock Director in the event something happens to the heifer.

                5.       Calf Scramble winners that fail to complete their obligations as stated in the FSF Calf Scramble rules will loose their rights &

                          club or Chapters right to scramble and will be required to repay the $500 to the Four States Fair.  They will also be required to send  

                          a letter of explanation to the donor and to the Four States Fair.

ORIGINAL MINORS RELEASES MUST BE IN THE FOUR STATES FAIR OFFICE BEFORE THE CONTESTANTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CALF SCRAMBLE!!!
