OPEN DAIRY CATTLE EXHIBIT RULES

(See Exhibitors General Rules & Regulations)

RULE 1. ENTRY DEADLINE:  Open Dairy Cattle entries will close August 31, 2007.  Entries must be postmarked by August 31, 2007, (NOT postage meter stamp). 

LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  Mail entries to: Four States Fair, 3700 East 50th St. , Texarkana , AR 71854 , ATTN. Open Dairy Cattle entries. 

RULE 2.  ENTRY FEES: An entry fee of $25 per head must accompany each Summary Sheet and payment, $2 goes to the scholarship fund - applications are available in the fair office).  SUBSTITUTIONS may be made through time of check in for $10 per head fee!  Postmarked - NOT postage meter stamp, after August 31, 2007 will not be accepted. ENTRY FEES ARE NON REFUNDABLE.  Exhibit space is available for a $10 fee.  In the event space is not available, fee will be refunded at check in of cattle.  TIE OUTS $5 A SPACE. NO GENERATORS IN BARN.

RULE 3.  ENTRY FORMS must be completed online.  Only online entries will be accepted.  All summary sheets must be signed and include complete mailing address and phone number for owner &/or exhibitor. IN ORDER FOR ENTRIES TO BE COMPLETE THREE (3) THINGS SHOULD BE INCLUDED, 1. CHECK OR MONEY ORDER, 2. A COPY OF REGISTRATION PAPERS ON EACH ANIMAL AND 3. SUMMARY SHEET printed from online entries. 

RULE 4. PASSES: Each exhibitor will receive one pass.  Each pass will allow 1 person thru the livestock (south) gate only, CAR PASSES issued 1 pass for every three entries.   Passes will be mailed to the address on Summary sheet. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED ON GROUNDS WITHOUT REQUIRED PASSES. Additional passes may be purchased for $10 each.

RULE 5.  OWNERSHIP OF ANIMALS:  To be eligible for competition, animals must be registered with their respective breed associations.  Registry certificates of ownership must be produced and will be checked if copies were not sent with summary sheet. NO PENDING REGISTRATION PAPERS AT TIME OF ENTRY.  The exhibitor must complete all information; otherwise entry will not be accepted. 

RULE 6.  No nurse cows are permitted on show grounds.  No barren animals will be eligible in breeding classes.  An affidavit stating that an animal of breeding age is a breeder must be furnished on request.

RULE 7.  ARRIVAL & RELEASE:  All entries in the Open Dairy Cattle Division must be in place in the barn by 12PM, Friday, September 21st.  Animals will be released Saturday, September 22nd no earlier than 8PM.  Any other times must be approved by the show manager or livestock director or exhibitor will forfeit all premiums.

RULE 8.  Exhibitor must be able to have full control of animal or risk disqualification. 

RULE 9.  All animals will be required to have a current health certificate issued by licensed veterinarian, that conforms to the requirements of Arkansas Livestock & Poultry Commission - see General Rules and Regulations. RULE 10.  In the interest of improving the Open Dairy Cattle Show, any violation of these rules will cost a forfeiture of all premiums earned by the exhibitor.

RULE 11.  ALL PROTESTS SHALL BE MADE TO THE LIVESTOCK DIRECTOR IN WRITING IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CONCLUSION OF JUDGING.  SUCH PROTESTS MUST STATE PLAINLY THE CAUSE OF COMPLAINT AND ACCOMPANIED BY $100 DEPOSIT.  JUDGING PROCEDURES WILL NOT BE INTERRUPTED FOR PROTEST INVESTIGATION.  DECISIONS OF THE LIVESTOCK DIRECTOR AND FAIR MANAGEMENT ARE FINAL, PENDING A COMPLETE INVESTIGATION.

RULE 12.  In all breeds there must be 5 or more of the same sex to constitute a breed.  When less than 5 of the same sex are entered, they will show in other breeds.  When 5 or more of the same sex of a breed not listed below are entered, that breed section will be added.

RULE 13.  Shavings will be available for a fee.  Stall area MUST be cleaned before release.  All hay and manure must be disposed of in the dumpsters at rear of barn.  NO SMOKING IN LIVESTOCK BARN BY ORDER OF THE TEXARKANA FIRE MARSHALL.

1ST PLACE - $75.00, 2ND PLACE  - $67.50, 3RD PLACE - $60.00

4TH PLACE - $52.50, 5TH PLACE – 45.00,  6TH PLACE - $37.50

SECTION A – Brown Swiss          SECTION B – Holstein     SECTION C - Jersey                

SECTION D – Milking Shorthorn  SECTION E – Guernsey    SECTION F - Other Breeds   

If there are fewer than 3 animals competing for champion and reserve champion, only champion plaque will be awarded.

 

RULE 15.  CLASSES:

HEIFERS:

(heifers that have freshened will show in the 2 year old class)

CLASS 01 - Junior heifers born between March 1, 2007 and May 16, 2007

CLASS 02 - Intermediate heifers born between December 1 2006 and February 28, 2007

CLASS 03 - Senior heifers born between September 1 and November 30, 2006

CLASS 04 - Intermediate Junior Yearling heifers born between June 1 and August 31, 2006

CLASS 05 - Junior Yearling heifers born between March 1 and May 31, 2006

CLASS 06 - Intermediate Senior Yearling heifers (not in milk) born between December 1 2005 and February 28, 2006

CLASS 07 - Senior Yearling heifers (not in milk) born between September 1 and November 30, 2005

Junior Champion and Junior Reserve Champion heifer

CLASS 08 - Junior 2 year old (in milk) born between March 1, 2005 and August 31, 2005

CLASS 09 - Senior 2 year old born between September 1, 2004 and February 28, 2005

CLASS 10 - 3 year old born between September 1, 2004 and August 31, 2004

CLASS 11 - 4 year old cow born September 1, 2003 and August 31, 2003

CLASS 12 - Aged cow over 4 years old
